Kulturhaus Brotfabrik (Wien)

Kulturhaus Brotfabrik (Vienna, Austria) is a Community Arts Project situated in Vienna’s 10th district, Favoriten. In this very lively district of Vienna Kulturhaus Brotfabrik offers a wide range of cultural events at two separate venues, in order to create new networks within the local community. The main house, Kulturhaus Brotfabrik, is situated in the premises of Brotfabrik Wien, an arts and culture hub in the district. The second location, Stand 129, is a market stall at the Viktor Adler market place in the heart of the district
The two main targets of Kulturhaus Brotfabrik are to build bridges between different communities with the help of art and culture and to make the arts and artistic expression accessible to people whose access to mainstream institutions of art is limited and/or impeded through societal mechanisms of exclusion. This exclusion applies to many inhabitants of Favoriten due to factors such as migration experience, socio-economic status, language barriers etc. With the tools of community arts, Kulturhaus Brotfabrik works to lessen these exclusionary mechanisms through a variety of programmes, projects, and events.
Kulturhaus Brotfabrik is more and more involved in European Partnerships (through the Erasmus+ & Creative Europe programs) with the aim of strengthening European collaborations and learning from the praxis of other European organisations that are active in the same fields.
The artistic and cultural program of Kulturhaus Brotfabrik aims for participatory processes among the local target groups. It ranges from arts and theatre workshops, concerts and movie nights, choir, singing, and video projects to collective cooking and even German courses led by volunteers. All of these offers are open to everybody.
The programming encompasses activities with varying degrees of participation by design so that reserved people with a fear of contact to the arts and artistic projects can find entry points to the institution that they are most comfortable with.
Openness and participation are key principles for the work of the Kulturhaus Brotfabrik. One way of participating and shaping Kulturhaus Brotfabrik is also volunteering in the many different projects within the house. Volunteers are supporting the teams in almost all projects and events. Kulturhaus Brotfabrik also hosts volunteers through the European Solidarity Corps.

Association Kulturanova (Novi Sad, Serbia)

Kulturanova initiates intercultural and intersectoral dialogue in society, fostering youth creativity through art education, production of cultural content and promotion of public policies in the field of culture and youth. The association was founded in 2001, as an “umbrella” association of various non-formal independent art groups, individuals and young artists. The main values are interculturalism, intersectoral networking, peacebuilding, equality and participation. The main target group of their activities is young people (18-30 years old).
The main objectives of Kulturanova are:
  • Removing barriers to coexistence in Novi Sad and Vojvodina by initiating and encouraging dialogue between various vulnerable subcultural groups, especially migrants, “newcomers”, Roma, LGBTQ+ people and people with disabilities.
  • Promotion of creativity in order to improve work culture in non-cultural sectors and joint action for more effective social relations.
  • Developing a culture of dialogue between young people from Serbia and neighbouring countries through the joint production of cultural content.
  • Decentralisation of culture through the placement of our content in the cities of Vojvodina that do not have a developed cultural scene (especially independent one), as well as in parts of the city in Novi Sad that do not have enough youth and cultural activities.
  • Active participation in the processes of planning and improving public policies in the field of youth and culture in Novi Sad, Vojvodina and Serbia.
